I dance at a lot of Zaffe in Melbourne. For those of you who've never heard of this before, a Zaffe (also spelled zaffa / zaffet) is the musical procession for the Bride and Groom into their wedding reception. This is typically danced for Arabic families and I can only describe it as THE BEST way of entering into your wedding. Think of it as a wedding march for the Bride and Groom. It announces the newly married couple into their reception with much fanfare and celebration. You have drummers, men carrying swords and male and female dancers all doing their best to create a happy, party vibe for the newlyweds. Dancing at Zaffe is honestly one of my favourite things to do. You can't help but get completely caught up in the happiness and celebration that all the guests are throwing at the Bride and Groom. It is like being a rockstar for 15 minutes. The love and feeling of celebration is totally amazing!
The size of the zaffe group can be as small as a couple of drummers to as big as the wedding party wants! I even heard of a zaffe in Sydney that was 20 or so strong! AMAZING! Their styling can also be as traditional or modern as the wedding party wants.
Here are some piccies of different costumes that are worn. I'll find a good video and post it for you guys too.
