I dance at a lot of Zaffe in Melbourne. For those of you who've never heard of this before, a Zaffe (also spelled zaffa / zaffet) is the musical procession for the Bride and Groom into their wedding reception. This is typically danced for Arabic families and I can only describe it as THE BEST way of entering into your wedding. Think of it as a wedding march for the Bride and Groom. It announces the newly married couple into their reception with much fanfare and celebration. You have drummers, men carrying swords and male and female dancers all doing their best to create a happy, party vibe for the newlyweds. Dancing at Zaffe is honestly one of my favourite things to do. You can't help but get completely caught up in the happiness and celebration that all the guests are throwing at the Bride and Groom. It is like being a rockstar for 15 minutes. The love and feeling of celebration is totally amazing!
The size of the zaffe group can be as small as a couple of drummers to as big as the wedding party wants! I even heard of a zaffe in Sydney that was 20 or so strong! AMAZING! Their styling can also be as traditional or modern as the wedding party wants. Here are some piccies of different costumes that are worn. I'll find a good video and post it for you guys too. More happy messages from happy clients over this Easter break! I am feeling very loved today..................
'Yasmin. Thanks for yesterday. Everyone loved your appearance and it was something to have remember the day with. Good luck and hope to see you again.' Joe, from Brunswick. A really lovely Easter celebration with a beautiful Italian family in Brunswick. It was an honour to be invited into their house to perform. Thanks Joe! :>
I am always asked by Melbourne's advanced dancers to run workhsops. Sadly, I'm not able to fit it in my schedule at the moment HOWEVER there is good news! The wonderful Caroline of Cairo is coming to Melbourne to do some advanced classes in March. Here are the details ladies! Enjoy!
https://www.facebook.com/events/1393146757666427/ I am blessed with wonderful opportunities in Melbourne. Here I am on the Today Show on the Nine Network for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. This past weekend has been totally epic! I was entertaining hundreds of people on Port Melbourne beach at a Middle Eastern style banquet under a big red Bedouin style tent! A beautiful day all around.
WOW! I had such a wonderful experience last week. I had the honour of dancing with the Underbelly Belly dance troupe at the ICC Cricket World Cup opening ceremony. We represented the United Arab Emirates and performed a Khaleegy dance. For those of you who haven't heard of Khaleegy, it is actually a folkloric dance from the Gulf region. It is danced in a beautiful long embroided dress (see below) and there is A LOT of hair flicking involved (I have a sore neck now!). I'm in the middle, wearing purple. Or for a shot of us mid hair flick, look at this link! Melbourne definitely knows how to put on a good party! Such fun.
Here I am dancing at Federation Square on Australia Day. I am currently battling with concussion (my head had a run in with a iphone dock.....long story!), so I am actually pretty happy that I could dance.
